Stephen Leonard Zipperer of Tempe, AZ , died August 19, 2020, after a long and hard-fought battle with addiction. He was born July 1, 1967, in Manitowoc, WI, the son of Lester and Betty (Skarda) Zipperer. Stephen received a law degree from Arizona State University College of Law in 1996. Most recently he worked as a peer support counselor in Tempe. Stephen loved helping others, walking his dog Chelsea, and hiking in beautiful places. An avid runner, Stephen completed many marathons and half marathons. His spiritual pursuits led him to Kundalini yoga, and in this tradition, he received the name Nirmaljeet Singh.

Stephen was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Olive and Leonard Skarda of Kellnersville, WI, and paternal grandparents, Sylvia and Lester Zipperer of Menchalville, WI.

In addition to his parents, Stephen is survived by his loving partner of 33 years, Mark Prestegard; four brothers, David and Barbara Zipperer of Mishicot, WI, Daniel Zipperer and Becky Little, Kevin and Kelly Zipperer, and Roger and Sylvia Zipperer, all of Green Bay, WI; four sisters, Carol and Pete Zdanowski of Manitowoc, WI, Mary Zipperer, of Valders, WI, Amy Zipperer of Northfield, ME, and JoAnn Zipperer and Bret Menuier of DePere, WI. Stephen will also be fondly remembered and sadly missed by dear friends, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless others who were fortunate enough to enjoy his sharp wit, good –natured humor, and bright smile.

A private service will be held in Tempe, and an additional service will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Kellnersville, WI. Per his request, in lieu of flowers, donations in Stephen’s memory may be made to Southwest Center for HIV/AIDS, 1101 N Central Ave., Suite 200, Phoenix AZ 85004. Stephen leaves many grieving hearts on this earthly plane as his spirit journeys onward to join the infinite realms of the Divine.
