Iriece Walker (Stevenson) born September 17, 1935 to Shernal Walker and Dezara Webster in Waco, Texas, however in early infancy her father passed. Dezara later married John L. Woods whom loved and cared for his wife and child. At a young age she gave her life to God. Iriece attended AJ Moore Elementary & AJ Moore High School in Waco, Texas. She later met and married Jerry W. Steverson Jr. and with him she had 6 children Chryl, Beverly, Jearld Michael, Carla and Darla, and Donna all of Phoenix, Arizona.
In 1960 the Steversons moved to Phoenix, Arizona and she joined Star Bethlehem Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. John Finley. Iriece pursued her education at Maricopa Tech College and studied Interior Design, she also received a certificate from the Department of Economic Security. Iriece loved to sing, sew, dance, garden, farm, go to casinos, stay at hotels (suites), and she really loved being around her family. She also ran her own small business in bridal and drapery.
Upon getting ill, a devoted caregiver Shaneese (Kena) Wright and Charles Abbs (son-in-law) stepped in to help care for her.
Iriece is survived by her children; Chryl (Charles) Abbs, Beverly, Darla and Donna; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mr. Isreal & Joyce Steverson of Waco, Texas; special daughter Rose Ward (Gerald) and special niece Pamela Colter.
Iriece is preceded in death by her son Jearld M. Steverson (NC), daughter Carla R. Sanders, grandson Earnest D. Austin and her granddaughter Chrylnece Abbs.
Iriece will be greatly missed by 100 grandchildren, great great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives.
Mama’s (Iriece) favorite saying was “Peace be still”.
