Helen Nichols

Helen Charlene Nichols-Burris departed this life in Phoenix, Arizona on Monday, August 26, 2019 at the age of 86. Helen was born April 18, 1933 in Nuyaka, Oklahoma to Marshall Nichols, Sr. and Rosie Lee Nichols. In her early years, she attended Willow Grove School. Later, she attended college and completed studies in Cosmetology as well as the Medical field. During the late 60’s, she lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma, but moved to Phoenix, Arizona to join her siblings and family. In 1988 she met and married James Thomas Burris. Helen came from a close knit family, so close that she lived within a few blocks from her oldest brother and sister. She lived there through out her sister’s life. Helen accepted the Lord as her personal Savior at an early age. She attended Abundant Life World Ministry in Phoenix, Arizona where she served faithfully until her health would not allow her to. Helen’s favorite pasttime was completing Find-A-Word puzzle books, playing card games and dominos with friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Marshall Sr. and Rosie Lee Nichols; her husband James Thomas Burris; her son Leroy Jackson; stepson Carl Nelson; three sisters: Verline Nichols Graham, Gladys Nichols, Pearline Nichols-Jones; four brothers: Leroy Nichols, Robert (Bobby) Nichols, Marshall Nichols Jr., and Richard Nichols. She is survived by her two sons Haywood (Anita) and Lawrence Galloway both of Phoenix, AZ; step daughters: Gloria O’Neill, Sheena Nelson, Carolyn Burris, Darkina Burris all of Phoenix, AZ, stepson Roy O’Neal, Phoenix, AZ; brother-in-law Herman Jones, Tulsa, OK; sister-in-law Yvonne Nichols, Tulsa, OK; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends both in Oklahoma and Arizona; and her close friends Myrte Thomas of Okmulgee, OK and Catherine Belyea of Phoenix, AZ.
