Erin Virginia Dale peacefully passed away on July 14, 2023, at her home in Mesa, AZ at
the tender age of 13. Erin will be joyfully remembered for her loving, spicy spirit, brutal
honesty, and fun personality. Erin goes down as one of the most courageous children of
all time, always advocating for herself and fighting cancer with a sense of humor and
bravery for nearly four years. Erin was a lover of her family, friends and her stuffed
animals (that she fondly called her “friends”). You could often find Erin swimming,
baking, listening to music, doing makeup and getting her nails done, playing board
games and watching horror movies.
Erin was born October 12, 2009, in Gilbert, AZ to Susan (Holman) Lundgren and Ryan
Dale. She was the cherished sister to her big brother, Caden, and little sisters, Ellie and
Lily. Erin is also survived by her stepdad, Brian Lundgren and his wonderful extended
family, maternal grandparents, Patrick and Lupe Holman, paternal grandparents, Ron
and Sue Dale, uncles and aunts, Brian and Rene Holman, Philip Holman, Melissa
Morales, Bridget Dale and Dan Ragusa, and cousins Owen and Cora Holman, Jonika
Salazar and Nina and Arcelo Morales. Erin leaves behind countless treasured family
members and dear friends who are like family.
Aside from being a beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin and friend,
Erin was also a nurturing caregiver of littles, always finding ways to connect with
children. Her outgoing personality, snuggles, quick one-liners and authenticity are just a
few of the many things that will be greatly missed and remembered.
In lieu of flowers, please donate in Erin’s honor to Phoenix Children’s Hospital or
Kameron’s Krusaders or give blood/platelets to your local chapter of Vitalant. A warm
thank you to the kind helpers during this final chapter: NXT Generation Mortuary
Support, All Options Funeral Home and Jennifer O’Connell at Crossing the Threshold.
Tell your loved ones how much they mean to you; hug tightly; laugh often; speak your
mind; honor your feelings; set boundaries; show kindness to strangers; and try to find
the joy in each day.
A beautiful and intimate celebration of life took place at the family home with Erin’s
loved ones on July 14th. Erin will be laid to rest at San Tan Memorial Gardens at Schnepf
Farms in Queen Creek on July 18th.
Thank you to all of the generous souls who have added sunshine and enriched Erin’s life.
13 years old is far too young to leave this Earth, though Erin’s beautiful spirit will live on
in the countless people her life and courage touched.
