Abu T. Shaharier, PhD, was tragically taken from his family, friends and colleagues in a terrible automobile accident on December 1, 2018.
He was known as Dr. Abu, which was the nickname given to him by the thousands of information technology and other professionals who took his classes at Arizona State University and University of Phoenix.
Born in Comilla, Bangladesh on July 15, 1956 to Tofazzal Hossain and Momtaz Begum, Dr. Abu was the fourth of ten brothers and sisters. Coming to the United States in 1979 to pursue his education; he achieved his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Master’s in Applied Statistics from Utah State University and his Doctorate from Arizona State University.
Dr. Abu launched Information Engineering Institute, dba ieLinks, in 2000. His passion for software development, education and helping others achieve their dreams was his driving force. ieLinks is best known for his software pride and joy; eCampusLynx Student Information System which is being used by career colleges and schools nationally. ieLinks has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being.
He was described as a “Renaissance Man” when profiled by The Phoenix Business Journal and The Arizona Republic: Entrepreneur – Software Engineer – Professor – Inspiring Mentor – Artist - Philanthropist in Bangladesh.
Dr. Abu will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, intelligence, humor, passion for helping people and gracious spirit. He is survived by his loving wife Barbara in Tempe, AZ, mother Momtaz in Dhaka, Bangladesh, 7 brothers and sisters, many nieces and nephews.
The Service for Dr. Abu was held at the Tempe Mosque on Tuesday December 4, 2018. Burial followed the service at Al Rahma Muslim Cemetery in Maricopa, AZ.
