Douglas Lee Doyle passed away on April 24, 2023, from respiratory failure. Doug was born to Virgil and
Pat Doyle in Glendale, CA in 1942 and lived in Southern California throughout his childhood. He enlisted
and served in the U.S. Navy from 1959 to 1963, earning the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon and
Antarctic Service Medal and Ribbon. A brief marriage with his first wife brought twins David and Darin
into the world in 1968.
Doug met Chris while working at a bowling alley in California. They moved to Phoenix, Arizona, were
married in 1970 and later had daughters Trish, Treena and Sarah. In the early 80’s, Doug co-owned and
managed Virgil’s Auto Shop in what is now the Melrose District. Later he worked as an auto insurance
adjuster until a disabling stroke in the mid-90’s. Forced into retirement as a result of the stroke, Doug
enjoyed life by cruising and traveling with his wife, watching sports in person and on television and
playing games with friends and family.
Doug was preceded in death by Chris, his wife of 52 years, his sons David and Darin, his parents, and his
younger brother Roger.
Doug is survived by his older brother, Jim; his daughters, Trish (Eric), Treena (Alan) and Sarah (Jason); his
13 grandchildren: Kayla, Corey, Ryan (Amber), Nick (Kayla), Trevor, Amanda, Shay, Karin, Chris, Madison,
Justin, Tristian and Shane; 2 great-grandsons: Maddox and Frankie; and many other family members and
