David Michael Makay left this world on June 30th in the presence of his beloved family. Born in Northridge, California  in 1968, David was the first child of Keith Makay and Domenica “Donna” Capaldi. He graduated from Brophy College Preparatory and attended Arizona State University where he received a B.S. in Justice Studies. While attending ASU, David became a sergeant in the Arizona Army National Guard working in artillery fire direction. After graduating, David worked as a parole officer with the Arizona Department of Corrections and later as a probation surveillance officer with Maricopa County Adult Probation. David transferred to the U.S. Army Reserve, working as an Intelligence Analyst and a Counterintelligence Agent, completing tours in Germany and South Korea. In 1998, David was hired by the City of Tolleson where he served as a patrol officer for the next 20 years. After his retirement, David worked part time for Arizona Firearms and full time as an airport security guard with the City of Phoenix at Sky Harbor International Airport.  He later became a full-time park ranger with the City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department. He is preceded in death by his parents and step-father, Barry MacCarthy. David is survived by his twin daughters, Lauren and Nicole Stephenson, and three siblings:  Michael (Brady) Makay, Adrian (Kristen) MacCarthy and Carrie (Paul) Sikorski. David was a proud uncle to 5 nieces and 2 nephews. David had great love for his family and friends and was known to many as a great storyteller and mentor. One of his most endearing qualities was his tardiness, because he was known to stop to talk with or help anyone in need.
