Monty was born December 19 th , 1958 in Webster City, Iowa and died in his home before sunrise
on October 17 th , 2023 in Tempe, Arizona. He was named after his Grandfather Ray Wilson.
Monty went to many schools from Lehigh, IA, Fort Dodge, IA, Ottumwa, IA and Riverton, WY. In
May 1977 he graduated from Campbell County High School in Gillette, WY. In grade school
Monty was very involved with Awana. He loved to sing and had a great voice which he used to
lead singing at church. He was a warm, friendly, loving and generous person.
He loved to bake chocolate chip cookies for Monday night football games; his favorite team was
the Denver Broncos. He was a cook at restaurants and worked for Jim’s Water Service, DRM
and Gene’s Carpet & Wall Cleaning in Gillette, WY. He also drove professionally earning his
Professional Truck Driving Certificate in 2014.
Monty moved to Apache Junction in 2018 to live with his Dad, Gene Rhyan. He moved into his
own apartment at Desert Marigold Senior Living of Tempe (Arizona) in January and was so
happy there he was dancing the day he moved in! He enjoyed visiting the people there and
going on day trips with the residents. He was the ‘counter’ and made sure everyone was back
on the bus. He was loved by residents and was always smiling and helping people. He had a
red canvas wagon that he let many people borrow. It was handy to use for laundry, moving,
and trash! He bought pizza to share with many of the residents. He was very helpful and full of
life. He will be greatly missed by his Sister Roxanne and all of his Senior Living Friends.
He was under Noble Hospice care for two months prior to his death from rectal cancer. Staff from
Noble Hospice were with him when he died.
Monty is survived by his Sister Roxanne S. Botic (Don) of Saint Peters, MO. He is also survived
by many Cousins and Nephews David C. Berry (Jiyoung) and Timothy G. Rhyan and Nieces
Stephanie J. Newcomb (Dave) and Christina Wright (Will Wiesenburg).
No services will be held for Monty. His cremains will be interred in Mount Pisgah Cemetery,
Gillette, WY near his parents Rosella M. Rhyan (Wilson), Lawrence Eugene Rhyan and Sister,
Jean M. Prieb (Rhyan).
